UG Student Achievements

Hemant Kumar Singh and Shwetabh Raj presented their research paper at the International Conference on Regenerative Ecosystems (ICRE) held at XIM University on 5 December 2025, based on fieldwork conducted during their Internship with CHINAR. The research involved field observations, community interactions, and ecological documentation across multiple villages. Presenting the paper provided valuable exposure to academic research, sustainability studies, and scientific communication while highlighting the importance of biodiversity conservation and indigenous ecological knowledge.

Ananya Chakraborty, Anshika Abhinanda, Aaradhana Chand, Priyanshu Parida, Shwetabh Raj, Sneha Swain and Supreet Padhi, 2nd year students achieved a significant milestone by actively participating in a field based NELD project at Chennua village in Puri district on 12th February 2026. Through on-ground engagement, they studied local environmental and water-related challenges, gaining practical insights beyond classroom learning. The students later presented their findings in a seminar organized by Aaina in collaboration with Youth4Water. Their presentations reflected strong research, teamwork, and communication skills, highlighting their commitment to sustainability and community-focused solutions. This experience enriched their academic journey and contributed to their holistic development.

Ananya Chakraborty, Anshika Abhinanda, Hemant Kumar Singh, Mrigyanka Bhardwaj, Pratik Saha, Shwetabh Raj and Sneha Swain marked another achievement by participating in an ESG-focused seminar held in Bhubaneswar on 19th September 2024. As part of the event, they participated in poster and video-making competitions aimed at raising awareness of sustainability and climate change. The seminar, organized by Srusti Academy of Management, provided a creative platform for students to express their ideas and solutions for pressing environmental issues. Their work demonstrated innovation, critical thinking, and a strong sense of environmental responsibility, making the experience both enriching and impactful in promoting sustainability awareness.

Aashrita, Ananya, Anshika, Aradhana, Mrigyanka, Priyanshu, Sania, Hemant, Shwetabh, Siba and Ayush, 2nd year students volunteered with NGO Aashayen, where they engaged with street children through creative and learning-based activities. They guided the children in working on projects centered around “best out of waste,” encouraging them to transform discarded materials into useful and artistic items. This hands-on initiative not only promoted sustainability but also nurtured the children's creativity and confidence. The items created were later showcased during the NGO’s Annual Day, reflecting the meaningful impact of the students’ efforts and their dedication to community engagement.

Priyanshu Parida and Supreet Padhi, along with Siba Das and Pratik Saha First year B.Sc. Sustainable Development students specializing in Environmental Science, participated in the first Green Summit at Raipur’s Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Auditorium. Organized in collaboration with NIT Raipur, the summit provided a prestigious platform for them to present their research "In The Scenario of Escalating Human-Wildlife Conflict Resilient Design of Community Models: a case of Chattisgarh, India”

Shagun Kar was honoured with the opportunity to express her thoughts and her climate story at the UN YOUTH CLIMATE DIALOGUE held on 20th November, 2020. The Youth Climate dialogue is a global platform where 15 young minds from all over the world get to exchange their climate stories which helps the United Nations to get a peek into the thought process of the youth who are not just the future, but the Now of this planet. Ms. Sagun kar was one of the two participants from india and 13 others from various parts of the world aged between 18 to 25. It was a great learning experience for her.

Mr. Dutikeshwar Ballav Das, third year student of B.Sc. (Hons.) in Sustainable Development, his capstone topic 'SAVING THE LAST ‘SMILING DOPHINS’ was accepted for oral presentation on International Conference-RAMBAC held at Alagappa University Convocation Seminar Hall on 12th & 13th December 2019.

He participated for the same and won the "Best Oral Presentation" award in the international conference at Recent Advances in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation (RAMBAC) - 2019 hosted by School of Marine Sciences, Department of Oceanography and Coastal Area Studies, ALAGAPPA UNIVERSITY - Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu.

Ayushi Dwivedi,first year student of B.Sc. (Hons.) in Sustainable Development has completed the training at San Diego State University(SDSU) in San Diego, California, USA. This two weeks (28th May to 15th June 2019) training was supervised by Dr. Zohir Chowdhury's supervision and guidance, Associate Professor School of Public Health, SDSU.

The training programme included topics on understanding California State's Climate Action plan (CAP), the city of San Diego's Climate Action Plan, and SDSU campus' Sustainability Practices and campus' Climate Action Plan.

In addition, training on air pollution instrumentation, measurements and data analysis was imparted. The academic portion was integrated with field visits to several local and regional points of interest spanning the states of California, Nevada and Arizona with the objectives of focusing on understanding and observing sustainability practices in the field. The programme culminated with a presentation of her experience and learning.
