The field visit to the Ecokart Recycling Plant, organized under the course Solid Waste Management by faculty member Elizabeth Abba, provided students with valuable practical exposure to sustainable waste management and environmental monitoring. Upon arrival, they were warmly welcomed by staff member Ashutosh Sahu, who introduced the facility and its operations. During the tour, students observed the complete lifecycle of plastic and e-waste recycling, including collection, segregation, dismantling, shredding, and conversion into reusable materials. The discussions emphasized the environmental and health risks associated with improper waste disposal, reinforcing the importance of responsible practices. A key highlight of the visit was the opportunity to explore a water testing laboratory accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET). Students learned about various water quality parameters, including pH, turbidity, dissolved solids, and the detection of contaminants such as heavy metals and organic pollutants, using advanced instruments. This hands-on experience enhanced their understanding of environmental protection and regulatory compliance. Overall, the visit fostered a deeper understanding of sustainability and encouraged students to adopt responsible consumption and waste-management practices in their daily lives.
