BACHELOR DEGREE PROGRAM (4 YEARS)
Drawing inspiration from the “Laudato Si” and Jesuit tradition of learning to care for the environment, Human Development, sustainable communities and societies, the XIM University, in keeping with its vision and mission, seeks to promote values of greater justice and peace and thus create enlightened, innovative programs to put Sustainable Development at the centre of global development agenda. Establishing a School of Sustainability is a testimony and testament to our commitment to join this global movement. To spearhead this movement, we need committed and competent leaders. School of Sustainability has designed a unique program –4-Year Bachelor Degree Programme B.Sc. (Hons./ Hons. with Research) in Environmental Science Specialization (Major), Sustainable Development (Minor) / Management(Minor) to create better leaders for a sustainable world connecting people, planet, peace, prosperity, and profit.
The Environmental Science program is a foundational environmental degree, enabling students to learn the science behind the Earth’s fantastic complexity and environmental processes. This program prepares students to take a role in improving the future of our planet. A cascading effect of problems like environmental pollution, its effect on human health, ecological damage, and climate change calls for a multidisciplinary approach to address such challenges and achieve a better environment. With this background, B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences at XIM University, Bhubaneswar offers a unique blend of natural sciences and social sciences.
“Education is the most powerful path to Sustainability. Economic and technological solutions, political regulations, or financial incentives are not enough. We need a fundamental change in the way we think and act.” (Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO 2009-2017). With this fundamental thought, the school also provides the students with a non-science background (i.e., +2 arts and commerce) an opportunity to get a B. Sc. Degree in Sustainable Development (B.Sc. EVS specialization S.D.).
The program tries to develop an overall understanding of Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Development by providing an opportunity for Summer Internship Projects (SIP), International Study Abroad Programme, and Personal Excellence for creating a Sustainable Future. It is designed to encourage and train aspiring students with cutting-edge innovative research and laboratory-based practicals. Ensuring that they are industry-ready for a rewarding professional career or master’s program in the areas like:
- Sustainability management
- Environmental Management,
- Environmental Chemistry,
