Training of CSOs, Para Legal Volunteers & Community Leaders

Training of CSOs, Para Legal Volunteers, and Community Leaders in Communication Strategies for Dialogue with Corporate and State Authorities : 12th to 14th June 2025

The School of Sustainability, XIM University, in collaboration with the Centre for the Sustainable Use of Natural and Social Resources (CSNR), jointly organized a three-day training program on “Training of CSOs, Para Legal Volunteers, and Community Leaders in Communication Strategies for Dialogue with Corporate and State Authorities” from 12th to 14th June 2025. The training took place in Room No. 126, UG Academic Block, at XIM University. The program primarily focused on enhancing narrative-building skills among participants to better equip them for constructive engagement with corporate and governmental stakeholders. Through nine thoughtfully curated sessions, the training offered a comprehensive exploration of extractive industries from multiple environmental, social, legal, and health-related dimensions. Participants engaged with themes such as the broader implications of extractive activities, their health impacts on communities, and the importance of sustainable development alternatives. A simulation exercise introduced strategic thinking for resource advocacy, while sessions on negotiation and dialogue skills equipped attendees with tools for effective communication and conflict resolution. Further sessions explored corporate best practices, sustainability approaches, and the rights of indigenous peoples in the context of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Legal frameworks protecting indigenous communities were also discussed, followed by skill-building in narrative construction and strategic communication to strengthen grassroots advocacy. The training concluded with an in-depth look at accountability mechanisms and advocacy strategies. Feedback from participants reflected the practical value of the training. Many shared that they were previously unaware of how to integrate scientific evidence and facts into their discussions and appreciated gaining that skill through the sessions. They learnt how to use social media platforms for building narratives and amplifying messages effectively within and beyond their communities. Several participants expressed a desire for more such programs to keep themselves updated with evolving narrative strategies.
